Charity Spotlight ~ Mind

Charity is really important to me. As a family we make regular donations to good causes, donate to food banks and give our time and skills to those that may need it. I’ve ran, abseiled, crafted and cut off my hair all for charity.

So, it seemed natural for me to start the Charity Spotlight section on my blog a few years ago. Charities have ranged from well known to small local charities or people needing support. The last year or so hasn’t seen many posts in the charity section but I’m very keen to bring it back. It’s return coincides with something a group of bloggers are doing. We’re teaming up to make monthly donations to 12 different charities over this year and as part of that I’ve promised to bring back the Charity Spotlight feature. This month’s Charity Spotlight is shone in the direction of Mind.

I Failed My 19 Books For 2019 Challenge!!

I failed!! The challenge I set myself to read 19 books for 2019 was unsuccessful. I only managed 4!

But I'm all about honesty here at Mummy Snowy Owl and lets be honest it was a ridiculous challenge!

19 Books For 2019 - The Life Of Rylan by Rylan Clark-Neal

Can you believe it! I’ve read another book and this one I read in a few days. Maybe it was the piece and quiet and lack of tech on our holiday or maybe it was simply because it was such a good read.

Book 4 of my 19 books for 2019, was Rylan Clark-Neal’s autobiography, The Life of Rylan.

19 Books For 2019 - This Is Going To Hurt By Adam Kay

Reading 19 books for 2019 is not the easiest task I've ever set myself but we're getting there! I'm now three books in, having just finished This Is Going To Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay.

19 Books For 2019 - Part-Time Working Mummy, A Patchwork Life By Rachaele Hambleton

Book two of my 19 books for 2019 has been read and it's a good one! Part-Time Working Mummy, A Patchwork Life By Rachaele Hambleton, tells the story behind the success of her blog and social media channels.

The book sat at the side of a cup of tea

Rachaele is open from the start as she details her childhood and eventful teenage years. She shares her experiences of a violent, often volatile relationship with the father of her eldest daughters and the subsequent relationship breakdowns that follow. Rachaele's story is an eyeopening insight into the life and recovery of those suffering domestic abuse.

19 Books For 2019 - Mumboss by Vicki Psarias

At the beginning of the year I made a promise to myself that over 2019 I would read 19 books. To be honest it hasn't exactly got off to the best start!

I've read one! But one is a start, right?

Being unwell recently, along with a few nights away in the caravan, have forced me to put down my phone, sit down and enjoy a little read.

Our Favourite Baby & Toddler Books

We love a good book and since JJ was a tiny tot he's loved being read to. Whether it be at home or nursery, out and about or at Granny's, he will often have a book with him. We even have a selection of his favourite books in our caravan for when we're away!

Like many kids though, JJ would get obssessed with a book and we would read it over and over for a week. This lead me to create our Book of the Week posts, where I shared our current obsession and there's some very random choices.

Charity Spotlight - Calendar Boys & CALM

As January comes to a close it's time to share another good cause and charity with you. Although, it's a little late to be sharing January's Charity Spotlight it is certainly no lesser a good cause. It is in fact a very important one.

I recently came across the Calendar Boys on Twitter after a blogger friend retweeted one of their tweets, and because I'm nosy I headed over to their page to have a look.

Calendar Boys are a group of men that met via a Slimming World Facebook group. Initially sharing ideas and support whilst on their weight loss journey, an ideal to do something for a great cause was formed. Later in the year the Calendar Boys will be releasing a 2020 calendar in aid of CALM.

19 Books For 2019!

I love books and when I was younger I was a keen reader but as I've got older I've found that I barely read. Distracted by the TV or busy scrolling social media I rarely pick up a book, but do you know what I buy a lot of or ask for every birthday or Christmas?

BOOKS!!

Charity Spotlight - Women's Aid

For many of us Christmas is a time for happiness, fun and laughter but sadly this isn't the case for everyone. For those suffering domestic abuse Christmas can be a time of fear, manipulation and violence. A time where their experiences can worsen even more.

Christmas is one of the busiest times for charities like Women's Aid.

Charity Spotlight - World Cord Blood Day

Collaborative Post

On the run up to Christmas people often begin to think about good and charitable causes and November is a month full of awareness days and weeks. With this in mind I've decided to pick one close to my heart and bring back my old Charity Spotlight feature.

Writing about World Cord Blood Day takes me back five years! Back to when I was expecting out little boy! Wow, I can't believe it was that long ago?!
