Charity Spotlight ~ Mind

Charity is really important to me. As a family we make regular donations to good causes, donate to food banks and give our time and skills to those that may need it. I’ve ran, abseiled, crafted and cut off my hair all for charity.

So, it seemed natural for me to start the Charity Spotlight section on my blog a few years ago. Charities have ranged from well known to small local charities or people needing support. The last year or so hasn’t seen many posts in the charity section but I’m very keen to bring it back. It’s return coincides with something a group of bloggers are doing. We’re teaming up to make monthly donations to 12 different charities over this year and as part of that I’ve promised to bring back the Charity Spotlight feature. This month’s Charity Spotlight is shone in the direction of Mind.

Charity Spotlight - Calendar Boys & CALM

As January comes to a close it's time to share another good cause and charity with you. Although, it's a little late to be sharing January's Charity Spotlight it is certainly no lesser a good cause. It is in fact a very important one.

I recently came across the Calendar Boys on Twitter after a blogger friend retweeted one of their tweets, and because I'm nosy I headed over to their page to have a look.

Calendar Boys are a group of men that met via a Slimming World Facebook group. Initially sharing ideas and support whilst on their weight loss journey, an ideal to do something for a great cause was formed. Later in the year the Calendar Boys will be releasing a 2020 calendar in aid of CALM.

Charity Spotlight - Women's Aid

For many of us Christmas is a time for happiness, fun and laughter but sadly this isn't the case for everyone. For those suffering domestic abuse Christmas can be a time of fear, manipulation and violence. A time where their experiences can worsen even more.

Christmas is one of the busiest times for charities like Women's Aid.

Charity Spotlight - World Cord Blood Day

Collaborative Post

On the run up to Christmas people often begin to think about good and charitable causes and November is a month full of awareness days and weeks. With this in mind I've decided to pick one close to my heart and bring back my old Charity Spotlight feature.

Writing about World Cord Blood Day takes me back five years! Back to when I was expecting out little boy! Wow, I can't believe it was that long ago?!

Charity Spotlight - Tiny Tickers

As May comes to a close it is time to share a newly discovered charity with you. The charities I choose range in size but their popularity though doesn't matter to me. What matters is the amazing work that they do.

Tiny Tickers is one of those charities.

Charity Spotlight - Marie Curie and the Great Daffodil Appeal!

March is the month that brings signs of spring as lambs, blossom and daffodils fill the country. When you're out and about this month you may spot a few more daffodils in the shape of the Marie Curie fundraisers as March brings their Great Daffodil Appeal.

Charity Spotlight - The Children's Society

Created over a century ago, The Children's Society, campaigns for a country where children can be free from poverty. Running projects in local communities, they help children and young people that are vulnerable, living in poverty, suffering abuse or neglect and simply have nowhere else to turn.

Charity Spotlight Update - Heidi Luckraft / Dazzle

Back in October I featured Heidi as my charity of the month as part of my Charity Spotlight blogs.

Battling Lyme Disease, her and her family were, and still are, desperate to raise funds for her treatment abroad.

Charity Spotlight - Heidi Luckraft / Dazzle

I first met Heidi a few years ago via Brownies. Working as a children's entertainer alongside her husband, she had been recommended to us by other groups as well as my sister in law. As a change to our usual Christmas party we made a booking and we weren't disappointed.

Charity Spotlight - Sienna's Journey

I first came across Sienna's Journey via a Facebook post shared by an old school friend. The post, a heartbreaking story of a poorly little girl brought tears to my eyes. I soon discovered that my friend that shared the post, Sarah, was related to the little girl and that Sienna was Sarah's niece.

I have followed Sienna's Journey since that moment and want to share her story with you. So, this month's charity spotlight is shining on Sienna's Journey.

Charity Spotlight - Little Princess Trust

Little Princess Trust logo

This month's charity is the amazing Little Princess Trust.

As those that regularly read my blog will know over the last year we've been part of a special project with Ikea to live a more sustainable life. Making us rethink our waste and how we live, it has made us review how we look and live life. After a morning at the hairdressers I started to think about what happened to the waste hair and mentioned it to my hairdresser. She mentioned that there are places that you can donate it to but it has to be cut properly and you can't use the sweepings off the floor!

So, when I got home I did some googling and found the charity, Little Princess Trust.

The charity provide real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. The wigs are given to the children completely free of charge. The charity also provide wigs to children suffering with illnesses such as alopecia.
