This week's movie of the week is a little familiar as it also happens to be our book of the week! Yep, it's The Gruffalo!
Just like the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the film tells the story of a little mouse making his way through the deep dark wood. To avoid predators he tells them about his made up friend the Gruffalo, an incredibly scary beast, which may just be partial to a piece of them!!!
Only the mouse soon finds that the Gruffalo does exist and might quite like a bite of mouse!!
The story is narrated by a mummy squirrel, voiced by Helena Bonham Carter. James Corden voices the mouse and Robbie Coltrane is absolutely perfect as a very gruff Gruffalo. Along with the talents of John Hurt and Rob Brydon, they truly bring the story to life.
The animation is exactly like the illustrations of the book, which I love, especially as so many adaptations change the look so dramatically. Being so familiar helps it engage and be recognisable to the little ones.
The Gruffalo is perfect to snuggle down for a quiet half an hour.
If you're a Sky customer you can currently find it on demand and if you're not it's available on Amazon here.
Enjoy
