Creative Projects You Can Do With Your Children

(Collaborative Post)

We all want to have fun with our children, but sometimes it can be hard to come up with new exciting ideas. There are plenty of activities that you can do with items that are lying around your house. They can even be educational and encourage creativity. Here are a few fun activities that you and your children can have fun doing together.

Invent a dance routine

Dancing is a great way to get your children active. Each song will encourage a different response and move. You can each choose a song to boogie to as you dance around together. It is a great way to improve their rhythm and to encourage them to be creative with their movements. You could encourage them to create a dance routine that they can then teach to you. They might even create a new dance move that has you all in fits of laughter.

Create toys out of cardboard

There is plenty of cardboard to be found in your home. Empty cereal boxes, shoe boxes and cardboard from any online shopping (Amazon Prime deliveries, we're looking at you). You might also have empty toilet rolls and a few plastic containers to throw into the mix too . All of these things can be used to make new toys! Your child might decide they want to make a bed for their doll or a garage for their cars. They might even want to build dolls house accessories that they can add to their growing collection. The best part is that they can decorate them in any way they want to. They could use paints or felt tips or even make use of things they find in the garden. Twigs and flowers are especially good for decorating fairy houses!

Make bird feeders

Making bird feeders is a great way to get your children interested in the outdoors and the wildlife that visits your garden. Bird feeders can be easy to make and you can use items that you might usually throw away. The only thing you may need to buy is birdseed and string. Once you have made them, you can hang them in the garden and watch out for birds coming for something to eat.

Slime

Slime is a great activity to do with your kids, as it is like a mini science experiment. They will be able to see the ordinary ingredients separately and then notice their state change when they are mixed together. All you need is PVA glue, bicarbonate of soda and contact lens solution. Once you have mastered how to make it, you can add food colouring and glitter so that each set of slime you make has a different end result.

Bake cakes

Baking is a great way to introduce your children to the world of cooking. It will help to develop several different skills while having fun. Cupcakes are simple to make and once baked the creativity can continue when you decorate them! Make different coloured icing, and buy a few different toppings so that your children can experiment with the look of their cake. Just make sure they don’t eat too many of the decorations before they have a chance to use them! They'll love getting creative in the kitchen and you get a nice treat at the end too!!
