Picking The Best Broadband Deal For Your Family

Whether or not we’d like to admit it, the internet is a huge part of our lives. Breaking news, social media, gaming, shopping, so much of our lives are powered by getting online.

Maybe you’re a family who use the internet for the basics and mainly do your weekly grocery shop online, the occasional quick scroll of social media or check and upload the kids homework. Maybe you’re a family that has every techy piece of kit available and stream sports or movies via a smart TV, let Alexa play you music and order your groceries from the touchscreen on your fridge door (yes you can actually do that)!

Whichever family you are, you need to make sure you get the best broadband deal for you. Be it speed or price, you need to get what suits your household and as we’re currently on the hunt for better broadband we’ve discover there’s a few things to consider.

Speed
This is where you need to have a good think about the devices you have at home and how many could be connected at any one time. The chances are it’s more than you think! For us it’s our phones, JJ’s tablet and our Sky box but when we thought about it a little more we realised there’s also a laptop, another tablet, a games console and a second Sky box! The chances of all of these being on at the same time are unlikely but with our phones constantly connected to our broadband, there’s already two devices connected before we’ve even started watching or playing anything.

So if you’re the type of family that may have sport streaming in one room, with music playing in another and the kids enjoying tablet time or playing Fortnite, you’re going to need a good strong broadband connection for your family’s broadband! The better the speed, the better the capacity to give you what you need.

Price
Let’s be honest! Price is one of the biggest parts when it comes to picking anything, including your family’s broadband. We all want to know we’re getting a good deal, especially when it comes to an ongoing monthly bill. Consider what your budget is and what you can afford whilst on the hunt for a good broadband deal. You might be able to get a better broadband service if you pay more but can you afford it?

With price in mind you may find that you have to decide between standard and fiber optic broadband for your family. Fiber optic is known for being super quick but it’s also known for being more expensive too! Try and reach a happy medium between price and the speed you need. Currently, you’ll find the Virgin Media have the fastest widely available broadband but for great value you might want to look at one of the lesser known providers like Plusnet, who are currently providing unlimited fibre for a fixed price and no activation fee.

Recommendations
A quick search of your chosen broadband providers name and the word ‘review’ will bring you a stack of results but comparing the coverage you may want for your family, in say Nottingham, might not compare to a single person living in London. Add your town to any review searches to get a better idea of their service.

If you’re friendly with your neighbours or have friends locally ask them who they have their broadband with and if they’re happy with the coverage and customer service. If you decide to go with the same provider see if they have a referral code as there’s often a discount, voucher or cashback available for both of you if they recommend their provider.

Now, I’m off to take my own advice and find a new provider as I’ve lost my connection repeatedly writing this post!
