Bug & Bee Home

Some items gifted for competition entry.

Bees and bugs are important to our gardens. Many of us know that bees help us pollinate our flowers and crops and bugs feed the birds and small animals like hedgehogs.

It’s easy to tempt little creatures into your garden. They simply need a warm and welcoming environment!

This easy to do bug and bee home craft involves recycled and natural items, making it even better for the planet!

Completed bug and bee home, 6 cans sprayed and glued together containing sticks, pine cones, string, flowers and grasses

For this you will need
  • 6 empty and washed cans
  • 6 or 7 pine cones
  • Twigs
  • Flowers and long grasses
  • Natural fibres or string
  • Damp sponge
  • Pegs
  • Plastic sheet or newspaper
  • Spray paint - £4.99 @ Amazon
  • Gorilla Glue - £4.20 @ Amazon
  • Gorilla Glue Epoxy - £6.00 @ Amazon

Some of the items listed

Start by laying out your plastic or newspaper and spray paint your cans in your chosen colour. I went for green to help blend and camouflage the bee and bug house within the garden.

Leave to dry.

Next, use the sponge to dampen the sides of the cans that are to be glued together. Use a small amount of the Gorilla Glue to stick them together. Attach the pegs to clamp them to each other whilst the glue sets.

Once the glue is set you can start to fill the cans.

To secure the twigs and pine cones mix the Epoxy and stick them to each other and the cans. This will stop them rolling out and mean naughty squirrels can’t steal them!

The string and flowers can be placed in and refilled easily if needed.
