Charity Spotlight - Tiny Tickers
As May comes to a close it is time to share a newly discovered charity with you. The charities I choose range in size but their popularity though doesn't matter to me. What matters is the amazing work that they do.
Tiny Tickers is one of those charities.
I hadn't heard of them until a week or two ago but on reading of their work I felt the need to share the charity with you.
There are lots of baby and children's charities around, all doing amazing work, but what makes Tiny Tickers different is that they are the only charity in the UK doing what they do.
Before reading about their work to improve early detection, diagnosis and care of babies with heart conditions, I had no idea that a baby is born every two hours in the UK with a serious heart defect. It's an eyeopening statistic that I wasn't aware of and I know many of you will be the same. Even more eyeopening is that Congenital Heart Disease causes one in every thirteen infant deaths, making it one of the biggest killers of babies in the UK.
Tiny Tickers works tirelessly to provide specialist on-site training to sonographers and healthcare professionals to help them identify heart conditions at twenty week scans. This giving babies a better chance of survival, should something be detected.
The charity also works to raise public awareness of the signs of Congenital Heart Defects and heart failure in babies, helping parents spot symptoms and therefore, help babies get the treatment they need as early as possible.
Tiny Tickers has recently been featured in a BBC Lifeline appeal, which you can watch here. They share the stories of two different babies, Rocco and Tommy, who were each diagnosed with heart problems at very different times, meaning treatment and happiness for one family and terrible sadness for another.
Early diagnosis can save the lives of so many babies and this is when and why I ask you to donate if you can. Donations can be used in so many different ways, from cards to alert parents to the signs and symptoms, to providing the much need specialist training to sonographer. Both of which can save lives.
Please donate if you can by clicking here.
Thank you.
