Where did my mojo go go?

It's been over two weeks since my last blog. The reason being that I seem to have run out of ideas. Don't get me wrong, I have always been indecisive but lately its gone to a whole new level. What to craft, what to write about and even what to have for tea and which loo roll to buy have been a struggle.

Unable to decide on what to write and with no creative juices following I've struggled to blog. Part of me has wanted to stop altogether. So, when the time came for me to submit my monthly post to meetothermums.com I faulted. No idea what to write and basically no ideas. I emailed the lovely Sally over at MeetOtherMums and explained how I felt, apologising for the lack of post this month.

Then something became clear. I wasn't the only one. In fact there are quite a few of us in the MeetOtherMums blog squad and the blogging community that feel the same. This caused Sally to write an encouraging post titled Who Stole the Blogging Mojo?

All that Sally wrote rang true. The pressure of creating the 'perfect blog' had become overwhelming and I'd become disillusioned about the reasons I was doing it.

I'll be honest though, like many bloggers, I'd like it to be a career and make me a few quid in the process but that wasn't the real reason I'd started blogging.

When I first started back in 2012 I wrote about our fertility issues and our longing for a child. I wanted to speak freely about our problems and break the silence surrounding those struggling to conceive. This developed into a blog about pregnancy and parenting. My content grew again with our involvement in the IKEA and the LiveLagom living sustainably project.

A mix of things turned me towards the craft niche but the encouragement of others, reading Natasha Courtney Smith's book, and a realisation of what I'm actual good at all played their part. What is the one thing I get asked the most about? The one thing that causes me to get frantic texts of family, friends and work colleagues?

Well, it's when they need my Snowy services. A school project, a nativity costume, a crafty piece of homework or a creative gift idea, nieces and nephews to entertain, I've had them all.

With the pressure of stats and followers I've seemingly lost sight of what I blog about and why. The ideas have been lost in likes and page views.

I need to put that to one side and concentrate on what I want to blog about and why.

Ooooo I might have an idea.

  2. So many people say they lose their mojo but so far in 5 years I've never lost mine. I guess monetisation is pocket money for me so I am able to pick and choose and be fussy. Yes I get annoyed when I see my views plummet for no reason, despite all the work I'm putting in, but I have about 40 post topics sitting there ready to write about, it's finding the time that's the problem with me.

But then I'm still writing for me on the whole, and I don't see that changing.

For my other blog, it's time again, and trying to branch out from the standard promotion to get other people reading, as well as getting engagement on my blog instead of on Facebook!

I think as long as you concentrate on whe you want to do, then you get your mojo back. #sharingthebloglove

  3. I think blogging is an endless cycle of ups and downs - I often feel quite down on my blog and always try to go back to why I started in the first place, and suddenly the ideas start flowing again. It's so easy to get caught up in the stats, but I remember when I started out and had pretty much no readers, but just loved to write. Sometimes you just need to remind yourself of that! I'm sure your mojo will find you again very soon! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  4. I read this post too and thought the same, I have sort of forgotten why I started to write and it's so good to remind yourself. Thanks for linking up to #dreamteam x

  5. I think its natural to go through cycles with your blog, there is so much that comes with having a blog and not all of it fun! I had realisation back at Christmas and took stock of why I do it and what I want from it and since then I've got the balance right and I love it again!
